Not only is it beautiful and fun the unicorn capelet is also comfy and cozy and will keep you warm during the chilly days while you’re inside or out playing. This would be the perfect gift for girls of all ages! Instructions include options to make this unicorn hooded capelet out of super bulky yarn or worsted weight yarn. The pattern is very detailed and there are pictures to help along the way. With these detailed instructions, even those with little crochet experience can find success creating their own masterpiece!
UNICORN HOODED CAPELET PATTERN DETAILS:
- Sizes: Small (about 3-6 yrs): 28″x 12″ , Medium (about 7-12 yrs): 34″x 14″ & Large (Teen/Adult): 40″x 16″. You can also make this for a baby if you use a thinner yarn and go down a hook size for 1-2 year olds.
- Skills: Turning chain, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet decrease, slip stitch, skip, magic loop (explained in pattern) & basic sewing.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
- Hooks: You will need a 4 mm (G) hook, 5.5 mm (I) hook and 6 mm (J) hook. For the super bulky capelet you will need a 9 mm (M) hook IF YOUR GAUGE MATCHES MINE!
- Yarn: You are welcome to use any brand of yarn as long as you check your gauge before beginning. For a tip on how to save time when checking your gauge, check out my blog post entitled “Becoming a Master Gauge Checker: It’s a stinky job, but somebody’s gotta do it. . .”
- FOR SUPER BULKY BLANKET
- I used Hometown USA (or any category 6 yarn). For main color you will need 243 yards for small, 324 yards for medium & 440 yards for large.
- I also used Red Heart Super Saver (or any category 4 yarn) for main hair color. You will need 100 yards for small, 110 yards for medium & 125 yards for large.
- You will need small amounts of hair highlight color and inner ear color.
- FOR WORSTED WEIGHT BLANKET
- I used I Love This Yarn (or any category 4 yarn). For main color you will need 360 yards for small, 475 yards for medium & 650 yards for large. For main hair color you will need 100 yards for small, 110 yards for medium & 125 yards for large. Small amounts of yarn are needed for hair highlight color and inner ear color.
- BOTH BLANKETS
- Caron Simply Soft Yarn (or any THIN worsted weight/category 4 yarn). Small amounts of eye color, black & white for all sizes.
- Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn (or similar furry yarn). You will need 45 yards for small, 50 yards for medium & 60 yards for large.
- FOR SUPER BULKY BLANKET
- Hook clasps (optional)
- Polyester stuffing (Fiberfil)- small amounts.
- Sewing needle with large eye
- Pins are optional for placing pieces before sewing (I highly recommend this!)
